How granular chlorine differs from tablets
Calcium hypochlorite is an unstabilised chlorine source and does not add cyanuric acid. It can be used in a pool treatment programme where the supplied product and procedure are suitable. It is chemically different from TCCA tablets and must never share a chemical container or feeder with them.
Treatment instructions and reopening
The application method depends on the supplied formulation and label. Do not assume that every granular chlorine should be pre-dissolved. Any incident treatment needs a site-specific procedure, appropriate testing and a decision by the responsible operator before the pool reopens.
Watch calcium hardness
Calcium hypochlorite adds calcium as well as chlorine. Repeated use can affect hardness and the water’s tendency to form scale. Include current hardness, pH and alkalinity results when discussing an ongoing treatment requirement.
Questions before buying
What pack size and chlorine strength are supplied?
Both are confirmed by quotation for the actual product. State the number of packs needed, or leave quantity open and explain the requirement. Do not calculate a dose from an assumed pack strength.
Can it go into my TCCA tablet feeder?
No. Calcium hypochlorite and TCCA must not be mixed or share a feeder or chemical container. Confirm a dedicated, compatible application method against the supplied product instructions.
Should I pre-dissolve the granules?
Follow the supplied product label. Formulations and application instructions differ, so a general web page cannot determine whether pre-dissolving is appropriate for your product.
What should accompany a treatment enquiry?
Provide the pool volume, reason for treatment, current chlorine and water-balance readings, and the existing chemical products. A quotation does not certify that a pool is safe to reopen.
