Real-time monitoring & dosing

Live monitoring of your water system, online and around the clock — with automatic dosing and alarms.

THE SHORT ANSWER

A monthly service visit tells you what the water was doing on the day the technician stood there. Real-time monitoring tells you what it is doing now, and every hour in between. Sensors track pH, ORP, conductivity and free chlorine, stream them to an online dashboard, dose automatically to hold the water in range, and raise an alarm when a reading drifts. Eleven hospitals across Hong Kong currently run on Gotech live monitoring.

The uncomfortable truth about periodic servicing is that it samples a continuous process at a single point in time. If a doser fails the day after a visit, nothing knows until the next one. A month is a long time for a warm, wet, nutrient-rich system to go unsupervised — and biology does not wait for the schedule.

Continuous data closes that gap. It also changes what you can prove: instead of twelve readings a year you have a continuous record, which is a substantially stronger position if anyone ever asks how the system was being managed.

What it does

  • Tracks pH, ORP, conductivity and free chlorine continuously
  • Shows data live on an online dashboard you can open any time
  • Doses automatically to hold the water in range between visits
  • Alarms when a reading goes out of range — so a failure is minutes old, not weeks
  • Trends — the data shows you the drift before it becomes an event
  • Builds a continuous record for compliance and planning

What happens on site

  1. Assess. Which parameters matter on your system, and where the sensors need to sit.
  2. Install. Sensors, controller and dosing equipment.
  3. Commission and calibrate. An uncalibrated sensor is worse than none, because it is confidently wrong.
  4. Connect. Data online, alarm thresholds set with you.
  5. Maintain. Sensors drift and need periodic calibration — that is part of the service, not an optional extra.

Why it matters

ORP is the parameter worth understanding here. A chlorine test tells you how much chlorine is present; ORP reflects how much oxidising power is actually there. Since pH decides how much of your chlorine is in its active form, ORP catches the failure a residual test misses — see effects of pH on various biocides.

What it costs to get this wrong

The case for monitoring is usually made badly, as a technology story. It is really an arithmetic story: automatic dosing stops overfeeding (chemical you were buying and wasting), cleaner heat-transfer surfaces cut energy every single day, and early warning prevents the event that costs real money. A HK$100,000 system looks expensive against this month's budget and cheap against a chiller. That comparison — properly discounted, with your numbers — is exactly what the real cost of doing nothing is for.

Common questions

What does the system actually measure?

Typically pH, ORP, conductivity and free chlorine, with the exact set chosen for your system. Conductivity drives blowdown control; ORP reflects real oxidising power; pH decides whether your biocide works at all.

Can we see the data ourselves?

Yes. The readings are presented live online — that is the point. You should not need to phone your contractor to find out what your own water is doing.

Is this only for large sites?

No, though the economics are strongest where the plant is valuable, the risk is high, or the site is hard to attend often. Eleven hospitals run on it; so do commercial systems. We will tell you if your site does not justify it.

Does real-time monitoring replace service visits?

No — it closes the gap between them. Sensors track pH, ORP, conductivity and free chlorine continuously, dose automatically to hold the water in range, and alarm when a reading drifts, so a failure is minutes old rather than weeks. Sensors still drift and need periodic calibration, which is part of the service, and every visit still produces a dated report.
